📈 Mortgage Rates Edge Up Slightly to Start October
After a few weeks of steady declines, mortgage rates nudged higher across all major loan types this week. The 30-year fixed rose to 6.38%, while the 15-year fixed climbed to 5.90%. Jumbo, FHA, and VA loans also saw small increases, with each up between 0.03% and 0.04%.
The 7/6 SOFR ARM had the biggest jump of the week, increasing 0.08% to 5.84%, though it remains the most affordable option for monthly payments. These modest upticks reflect ongoing market adjustments as the economy responds to inflation data and Fed policy signals.
While rates are still hovering below 6.5%, today’s market rewards preparation and timing - whether that means locking in before further increases or strategizing your next move.
