Fall fun is officially taking over the Charlotte area! This weekend brings one of the city’s favorite annual festivals, hands-on outdoor adventures, living history, neighborhood celebrations, and even a little Shakespeare under the open sky.
This week’s Five to Try is all about getting outside, exploring different corners of the region, and making the most of a beautiful September weekend. 💛

1️⃣ Festival in the Park 🎨🎶
One of Charlotte’s favorite fall traditions returns to beautiful Freedom Park! Spend the weekend browsing artwork from more than 150 artists and artisans, enjoying live performances, grabbing something delicious from the food vendors, and letting the kids join in the fun. With so much happening throughout the park, it’s an easy event to turn into a full family day.

2️⃣ Cabarrus County Creek Week Festival 🛶🐟
Get ready to get a little wet and explore! Creek Week brings fishing, kayaking, paddleboats, creek stomping, live animals, and other hands-on activities to Frank Liske Park. It’s a great chance for kids to learn about the outdoors while having so much fun they may not even realize they’re learning.

3️⃣ The Battle of Charlotte Living History Weekend 🇺🇸⚔️
Step back into 1780 for an immersive weekend of Revolutionary War history at the Museum of the Waxhaws! Families can experience living history demonstrations, musket and artillery demonstrations, cavalry, historical presentations, and battle reenactments at 2 PM each day. It’s an especially fun way to explore some of Union County’s history while spending the day in Waxhaw.

4️⃣ West End Huetiful Block Party 🎶🍽️
Head to Historic West End for an afternoon centered around food, music, and community! With a free fish fry, live performances, and plenty of neighborhood energy, this block party offers a fun opportunity to experience one of Charlotte’s most historic communities while connecting with the people who make it special.

5️⃣ Bard at the Barn: A Midsummer Night’s Dream 🎭🌿
Shakespeare doesn’t have to mean sitting quietly inside a theater! Bring the family to The Barn at MoRA for a relaxed outdoor performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This free production is an easygoing way to introduce the kids to Shakespeare, or simply spend a fall morning enjoying live theatre outside.

📊 Mortgage Rates Stay Relatively Steady This Week
Mortgage rates saw very little movement this week, with most loan options either holding steady or shifting by just 0.01%. The 30-year fixed rate remains at 7.19%, while the 15-year fixed is at 6.83%. The 30-year jumbo dipped slightly to 7.35%.
The 7/6 SOFR ARM also edged lower to 6.74%, while FHA rates held steady at 6.81%. VA rates were the only option shown to move higher, increasing just 0.01% to 6.83%. Overall, this week's snapshot points to a mortgage market that is holding fairly steady rather than making any major moves.
